Following James Gunn's mysterious Lobo social media post and Jason Momoa's DCU project tease, the Aquaman star responds to the online chatter: 'I'm in good hands and I think comic book fans around the world are going to be very excited.'
Aquaman star Jason Momoa responds to the Lobo speculations following his cryptic DCU project tease and James Gunn's ambiguous social media post. Ever since Momoa teased that one of his DCU dreams is coming to fruition under Gunn and Peter Safran's DC Studios leadership, many have been speculating about what project it might be.
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY In a recent interview with CBR, the Aquaman actor is asked to follow up on the recent postings and clarify what is actually going on. When asked to "blink twice" if Momoa's DCU dream project is indeed about Lobo, he gives a diplomatic answer about it without definitively saying yes or no. Momoa shares the following:
"Well I have to obviously blink, so there’s no way I can get out of this without blinking, but you know that would be amazing if that happened. I’m just happy that [James] Gunn is at the helm and [Peter] Safran, who is just like my heart. So I'm in good hands and I think comic book fans around the world are going to be very excited.
Assuming that Gunn and Safran will continue to invest in franchises that can exist outside the DCU, Momoa could easily star as Lobo in a standalone universe. Several years ago, Michael Bay was reportedly eyed to direct a Lobo live-action movie for Warner Bros., although no movement has happened on that project since 2018.
With Lobo being a personal favorite for Momoa, it would genuinely be fun if he got to portray the bounty hunter in an independent universe. It would have been a different problem if the hypothetical Lobo project was taking place in the DCU, which is what would prevent Momoa from playing him while also serving as Aquaman in the same world.
