Jason Momoa, who played Aquaman in the DCEU, will return to the comic book genre this summer as Lobo in DC Studios' Supergirl movie. Momoa opened up about his future with the franchise after this summer, stating that he hopes for a solo adventure with Lobo and would love to revisit the DCEU movie timeline. He also shared his experience of getting into character and staying in character between takes.
The DC Universe is about to bring in the famous bounty hunter in one of DC Studios' biggest projects yet. While the DCU's Chapter 1:"Gods and Monsters" is serving as a reboot for the DC brand, one of the main Justice League stars is making his way into James Gunn's new franchise.
After having played Aquaman, Jason Momoa will return to the comic book genre this summer, but this time as a very different character. In an interview with ScreenRant's Ash Crossan for DC Studios' Supergirl movie, Momoa, who will play Lobo in the sci-fi adventure, opened up about his future with the franchise after this summer. The former Game of Thrones star stressed that the film is just scratching the surface of his new character.
: As far as Lobo's journey is concerned, Momoa made it clear that he is hoping for a solo adventure with the alien bounty hunter, stating, "I mean, I think I'd like to, we talked about this, I'd love to do a solo film at some point.
" There is, however, one formula he would love to see revisited from the DCEU movie timeline in the DCU before getting his own project, as Momoa added, "I think it'd be great to step into a couple other worlds first, like how we did with Aquaman. Went to Justice League and then finally got to Aquaman after Batman v Superman. But it'd be nice to step into those and nice to look at Superman one of these days.
" Crossan also asked the former DCEU lead if there was a moment, while they were getting it all together with Lobo's look, that everything settled in for him taking on this role. Momoa explained, "I want to say prolific, but it's that moment.
Like everything just came together — mind, body, soul — where childhood, reading these comics, and you put everything together, and you've imagined it with all these other creative geniuses, and they build this character, and you put it all in.
" The superhero veteran continued, "And the last thing you do is you put those contacts in, turn around, look in the mirror, three hours later, teeth, and you put the cigar in. It's just like every inch of my body's covered, and you're fully in this character, and then you just get to play, and then everything starts coming out.
" Jason Momoa: And it just instinctually, everything just, 30 years of doing it, where you're going to go like,"Oh dude, I'm going to go f--k everything up and just have so much fun. " And I only got to be in so many scenes, so every scene you're just unlocking more. What would he do in this? What would he do in the situation?
What would he do? And so it's just fun. The Supergirl cast member also confirmed that he did in fact stay in character between takes, sharing how "Yeah, I do because I'm not in it for that long. I think after, if I had to do it for five months, probably not.
I’m probably been five, four scenes, four, five scenes? Yeah. So I'm like, it's fun. That was probably the only time I stayed in it a little bit.
" As Momoa himself is a massive fan of the character, Warner Bros. Discovery and DC Studios could finally make a Lobo film a reality. Prior to the DCU reboot, the DC Films division attempted to make a project centered on the famous Czarnian with Michael Bay, while SYFY also had a Krypton spinoff series in the works for Emmett J. Scanlan's iteration. Supergirl opens in theaters on June 26.
