The Jason Chen murder trial took a dramatic turn as the jury examined evidence recovered from the crime scene, including the tip of a knife found inside Jasmine Pace's body. BlueStar blood detection technology revealed traces of blood in Chen's apartment, despite his attempts to conceal it.

A murder trial captivated the nation as the jury delved into the chilling details surrounding the death of Jasmine Pace. Jason Chen , the alleged perpetrator, faces charges of first-degree murder for the brutal slaying of Pace, whose disappearance triggered a frantic search during Thanksgiving week 2022. Chen's arrest at his parents' home near Nashville, followed by the discovery of Pace's body shackled and concealed within a suitcase along the Tennessee River, painted a grim picture.

The prosecution's third day of presenting their case focused on meticulously reconstructing the crime scene. Chattanooga Police Crime Scene Investigator Michele Johnson, the lead investigator, described the process of gathering evidence and presented a diagram of Chen's apartment, marking every location where crucial items were found. Among the items presented as evidence was a box of black trash bags, mirroring the one found covering Pace's body inside the suitcase. A photograph depicting a knife placed on the bed, labeled as Exhibit 11, linked back to the defense's claim that Pace attacked Chen with a wine bottle and broken glass after discovering text messages on his phone from other women. The trial witnessed the introduction of the BlueStar blood detection technology, which revealed traces of blood in Chen's apartment despite his apparent attempts to erase all evidence. Johnson, describing the intensity and duration of the BlueStar reaction, stated it was the most significant she had encountered during her time as a crime scene investigator. Later, Johnson opened a bag containing the tip of a knife found within Pace's body during the autopsy, allowing prosecutors to directly compare it with the knife discovered on Chen's bed. Chattanooga Police Crime Scene Investigator Kristin Booker Shubert provided further details about the recovery of Pace's body, explaining the meticulous transport of the suitcase containing her remains due to its sensitive nature. Gruesome photos depicting Pace's body, bound and encased in multiple layers of trash bags, were displayed before the jury, prompting Chen to lower his head. The trial proceeded with testimony from officers who fingerprinted Chen and transported evidence to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI). Rachel Bakaletz, a former digital forensic examiner with the Chattanooga Police Department, now working for the TBI, took the stand, promising further insights into the case
