Japan's ex-princess Mako has a new title - Assistant Art Curator
– a commoner named Kei Komuro who works as a paralegal in NYC – the former royal also turned down a $1.3 million pay-out from the Japanese government. The sum is traditionally paid to women who lose their royal status when they tie the knot.
Per the Japanese publication, Komuro is serving as an unpaid volunteer at the Met's Asian art collection. She has specifically been involved in preparing an exhibition of paintings inspired by the life of a 13th-century monk who travelled throughout Japan as he introduced Buddhism. Komuro's appointment is no surprise as the 30-year-old graduated from International Christian University with a degree in art and cultural heritage. Per, she also studied art history at Scotland's University of Edinburgh before receiving her master's in Art Museum and Gallery Studies in 2016 at the University of Leicester.
"She's qualified and probably handling pieces in the collection.
