Jane Seymour discusses her ability to play characters of different ages, her admiration for Christopher Reeve's resilience, and the progress women have made in the entertainment industry.

Jane Seymour , the 73-year-old actress known for her role in 'Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman,' spoke to PEOPLE at the AARP Movies for Grownups Awards about her ability to portray characters of different ages. She shared that as she's aged, her acting roles have become more diverse, requiring her to utilize her entire facial range. 'I really love the roles I'm getting and if I'm playing character roles, which I am, but character roles that are still kind of sexy and fun,' she joked.

'I think at this point, I'm pretty comfortable just being able to age up and down and around.' Seymour has been portraying characters of varying ages throughout her career, starting with her younger roles and continuing into her older roles. She recalled working with the late Christopher Reeve on the film 'Super/Man: The Christopher Reeve Story,' describing him as a 'real-life Superman.' She emphasized Reeve's resilience in the face of adversity, believing he taught everyone that accepting challenges and helping others are essential for happiness. Seymour also reflected on the progress women have made in film and television since she began her career at the age of 13. 'It's a great honor, and it's wonderful because I've been working in entertainment since I was 13, so that's 60 years,' she said. 'To see how women are really having their moment now and telling their stories and telling stories that normally wouldn’t have been told is very empowering.' She encourages women to embrace authenticity and not try to pretend to be younger than they are.Currently, Seymour is enjoying a fulfilling life, filming a movie in England and hopeful for a fifth season of her show. She cherishes her family, including her grandchildren and children, and finds joy in their company. She acknowledges the challenges of staying relevant in the entertainment industry but maintains a positive outlook. 'Don’t take it for granted. It isn’t easy,' she said. But also I’ve never given up. I now have my own series again, and I’m in my 70s,' Seymour added. 'So I say to women, ‘Don’t give up and be authentic.’ Don’t pretend to be 20 when you’re 70. Be 70.”
