But the details are shocking. JaMychal Green, not Jordan Poole, is replacing Looney in the starting lineup Thursday night, and Looney has an illness. The Warriors told reporters that Looney wasn't feeling well and would play through it. A lineup of Poole, Steph Curry, Draymond Green, Andrew Wiggns and Klay Thompson closed out Game 1 against the Lakers after the usual starters with Looney struggled to defend the paint and score against a conservative Los Angeles defense. Noticeably absent from that sentence: JaMychal Green, who started exactly one game for the Warriors this year. The other Green has not been a major part of Golden State's rotation this postseason, registering four DNPs in the taut Kings series.
Looney, meanwhile, was a major part of the Warriors winning their first-round series, racking up an absurd 106 rebounds in seven games. That trend continued in Game 1 against LA, as he grabbed 23 boards. But it was clear that Anthony Davis is no Domantas Sabonis. Where Looney was able to lock down Sabonis, Davis ate Looney alive in the low post to the tune of 30 points and 23 rebounds.
On the ESPN pregame broadcast, Lisa Salters reported that Looney is"not feeling well at all" and can only play about"20 minutes max." If the Warriors are to tie up this series on Thursday night, it will be with a heavy dose of Jordan Poole and a to-be-determined amount of JaMychal Green.
