Stars captain Jamie Benn led the team with two goals in a 4-2 win over the Pittsburgh Penguins Friday night.
Despite surrendering the first goal for the second game running, the Stars scored four consecutive en route to their victory on Friday night, including two from their captain.
That’s where Benn took over. Dallas scored 22 seconds into its first power play of the night on a Benn snipe from the left circle. Miro Heiskanen and Jason Robertson had the assists. Robertson ended the night with two assists, also aiding Pavelski on his goal. He also scored an empty-net goal, which was taken off the board and ruled offside.
Sam Steel put the game out of reach midway through the third period, forcing the Penguins to pull Jarry and replace him with Alex Nedeljkovic. Dallas’ fourth line has continued to contribute offensively, as Steel’s goal was its seventh in the last nine games. “We needed him tonight,” DeBoer said of Oettinger. “That 2-on-1 save he made is a game-changing save. If that goes in, they grab momentum. You saw how they pushed after they got that second goal in the third period. That momentum probably starts in the second period if they score on that play.”The Stars closed out the home stand with three wins in five games and have won eight of their last 10.
