We chat with InsidiousThe RedDoor producers James Wan and jason_blum about Patrick Wilson's directorial debut, the Insidious spin-off Thread, and The Further:

Insidious: The Red Door picks up a decade after the events of Insidious: Chapter 2. Dalton Lambert, now grown, is starting his college career at an idyllic Ivy League university. After Josh Lambert drops him off, Dalton is plagued by demons from his past. In an attempt to stop the haunting, Josh and Dalton will need to return to The Further once more in the hopes of putting an end to the Lambert nightmare once and for all.

James Wan & Jason Blum on Insidious: The Red Door Screen Rant: I love the Insidious franchise. I knew Patrick Wilson was gonna handle The Red Door like a pro, but I would never expect it to feel like this is his first time being a director. James is a frequent collaborator of yours, and he's done a ton of horror films he's acted in, but this is the first time he's stepping behind the camera.

So, it's really kind of great, really cool to see Patrick step up and go, "Hey, after all those years of talking about movies, I'm going to step up and direct one myself." So, in a lot of ways, his approach kind of reminds me a lot like Leigh, as well. When I used to work with Leigh, he wasn't just a writer, he wasn't just an actor, he would approach everything from his acting to his writing with a director's mind.

Jason Blum: It's definitely being talked about, but I don't know how much we are discussing that. James actually originated that, so he'll know more about it than I will.
