Ibrox was not a pleasant place to be for tavernier and his Rangers teammates at full-time but he has no arguments with fan fury.
Rangers support aren’t in the mood for excuses – and James Tavernier isn’t going to insult their intelligence by trying.
“Well, it’s justified,” he admitted. “It’s as simple as that. We didn’t get the result the fans wanted and it’s justified. We’re really disappointed. It’s not the result we wanted and obviously we fully understand the fans’ frustration. “[New signings needing to gel] isn’t an excuse. But we as a team have to be responsible. All of us, collectively, and obviously individually. All of us, including myself, have to keep working hard and keep pushing ourselves. It’s still early in the season.
Now having barely had a minute to dwell on their PSV pummelling, Tavernier and co face two torturous weeks mulling over the missed chances that now leave them four points adrift of their bitter rivals only four games into the new season. Tavernier has become a target himself for a section of the disgruntled fanbase despite netting four goals already this season. Beale understands the result will sting but he offered a defence of his captain. The Londoner said: “Of course I can [recognise the criticism] but I am not going to pillory a player.
“Does James play in a certain way as an attacking full-back, does he give us that width and go forward? Yes, he does. As our captain James contributes enough for the team.” But the boss concedes results have to improve, and quick for his own sake.
