Shadow Home Affairs and Cyber Security Minister James Paterson has hit out at Treasurer Jim Chalmers for doing “absolutely nothing” to tackle inflation.
Data released by the Australian Bureau of Statistics on Wednesday showed inflation grew by 1.2 per cent in the three months from July to September, raising concerns the RBA will move to raise interest rates when it meets next month. Mr Paterson criticised the Albanese government’s “arrogance” after it claimed a few months ago that the interest rate cycle was over and inflation was under control.
“It’s not much of a Christmas present from Jim Chalmers but he will wear the responsibility for that,” he told Sky News Australia.
