The popular chef thrilled the crowd at Liverpool's Philharmonic Hall with an entertaining show that defied the expectations of ECHO writer, Ryan Paton
I'd never been to watch a chef live before and wasn't sure if there would be enough on offer to fill the grand stage at the Philharmonic Hall. However, I was aware of his impressive television profile and always enjoy seeing incredibly talented people do what they do best so excitedly attended the show on behalf of the Liverpool ECHO with an open mind.
James immediately armed himself with a seemingly bottomless glass of red wine that remained close by throughout the show - and was at ease on stage as he walked the crowd through some of his most delicious recipes. It started off on a wonderfully indulgent note as he applied his famous love for butter to construct the most divine looking of Chicken Kievs.
The crowd was in stitches as he added: "You're going to be leaving here and having a crap pizza. This will blow your mind." While I knew I would be witness to some amazing recipes during the show, I did not expect the performance to be laced with such humour as James kept the crowd laughing along with stories such as how he was rocked by a Scouse jibe earlier that afternoon when a stranger brutally told him: "You don't look as fat as you do on TV." James quipped: "Welcome to Liverpool."
