An update about James Gunn's Superman: Legacy movie reveals casting information and the impact of the Writers Guild of America strike.

In light of the Writers Guild of America strike, new updates about James Gunn's Superman: Legacy film have been revealed. As the DCEU faces its end this year, a new DC Universe is coming from DC Studios under Gunn and Peter Safran's leadership. One of the first major projects is Superman: Legacy, which will serve as a reboot of the DC icon and focus on a younger Clark Kent. As Gunn finishes his time with Marvel Studios, he is taking on Superman: Legacy as both its writer and director.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT This week, the WGA officially went on strike, which has and is going to affect a number of TV and film productions. However, a new report from The Wrap claims Gunn's Superman: Legacy movie is not one of those affected. According to the trade, Gunn turned in his draft of the script last week prior to the WGA strike going into effect.

What Does The Strike Mean For Other DC Universe Projects While Superman: Legacy may not be affected by the WGA strike, that may not be the case for other DC Universe projects. Outside of Creature Commandos, which Gunn had already written the scripts for prior to the January announcement, the strike will have an effect on other Chapter 1 films and series.

For something like Waller, if they are in the midst of season 1, it means the writing process has now been stopped due to the strike, which will cause a delay in the HBO Max show's release. To this point, the other DC Universe projects have not even announced their creative teams, and it's unknown which of them have writers attached.

Depending on how long the strike lasts, DC Studios may have to delay various projects and reschedule certain films and shows. Time will tell how things get shifted by DC Studios, especially if the strike goes on longer than the one in 2007-2008. But for now, Superman: Legacy is moving forward and will hopefully have casting decided in the coming months.
