Despite Titans star Alan Ritchson being rumored to replace Zachary Levi as Shazam in the new DC Universe, James Gunn has come out to debunk the story.
James Gunn set the record straight on Titans' Alan Ritchson replacing Zachary Levi as DC Universe's new Shazam. While the DCEU is almost over, 2023 was a rough start for the ongoing franchise that will be rebooted this summer. After several delays, Shazam! Fury of the Gods finally arrived in theaters last month. However, the DCEU sequel faced mixed reviews and disappointing box office results.

A recent report claimed that Ritchson, who played Hawk on Titans, was being eyed to take over for Levi. However, it didn't take long for James Gunn to shut down the rumors that he had booted Levi in favor of Ritchson.
Gunn is no stranger to debunking rumors about the DC Universe and even his Marvel Cinematic Universe projects. Whether it comes from Reddit, Twitter, or other platforms, Gunn will make sure people know if something's false.Will The DC Universe Even Include Shazam? Since it has only been a month since Shazam! Fury of the Gods' release, it's hard to know what lies ahead. Leading up to the sequel opening in theaters, Levi had made it clear that he was open to returning.
With Shazam! Fury of the Gods' struggle, DC Studios may not be in a rush to focus on Billy Batson anytime soon. It's also worth noting that Chapter 1, "Gods and Monsters," already have a lot lined up for the new franchise. The Shazam Family may one day get incorporated, but maybe not until much later on. Whether or not they would keep the same actors would be up to DC Studios to decide.
Given the tone of the Shazam! characters, it would be shocking if Gunn never brought them in at some point. If not their own franchise, it'd be great to see them appear as supporting players in the new DC Universe. Hopefully, 2023 won't be the last time fans see the Shazam! heroes as the new DC Universes come to life.
