" Vice President Kamala Harris became the Democratic nominee after Biden announced in July he would no longer seek reelection. That decision followed weeks of speculation by Democratic insiders that the president was unfit to effectively serve another term in the Oval Office. Carville in an appearance on the “Pod Save America” podcast said Biden’s exit was akin to removing an infected tooth. “I think it was clear that people just wanted something different,” the strategist said. “ like 72% wanted something different 60% of the Democrats did.” “The analogy I would use is that if you have an infected wisdom tooth and they pull it, you feel great,” he added. “You don’t feel any better than you’d have felt if you didn’t have the wisdom tooth. The fact that the wisdom tooth is gone, you’re like, ‘Gee, I’m on top of the world now.'” This euphoric feeling, Carville said, transferred into the Democratic Party's support for Harris, who launched her presidential campaign shortly after being endorsed by Biden. Though she was not originally among rumored party frontrunners to replace Biden, Carville said Harris had come into the role nicely. “The current level of talent in the Democratic Party is the highest level of political talent I have seen in my lifetime,” he said. “Harris has kind of proved herself to be a lot better than people thought.”Biden earned approximately 14 million votes during the 2024 Democratic primary elections. He repeatedly cited this figure as justification to remain in the race. Harris has never won a presidential primary election, making her the first Democratic Party candidate to be nominated in this way. Former independent presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. referred to this process as a “coronation.” However, Rep. Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., claimed in September Harris had been selected through an “open primary.” We had an open primary and she won it,” the former House speaker told Semafor. “Nobody else got in the race.” “Yes, people could have jumped in, there were people that were sort of preparing,” she added. “ just took off with it and actually it was a blessing because there wasn’t that much time between then and the election.” Rep.
