James Cameron didn’t originally plan to cast Stephen Lang as Colonel Quaritch in the Avatar franchise, and his first choice for the role would’ve been perfect. Quaritch is the main villain of the Avatar series. He led the human forces’ charge into the jungles of Pandora in the first movie. He got resurrected in a Na’vi avatar body to lead the second charge against Jake Sully and his clan in Avatar: The Way of Water.
Like most auteur filmmakers, Cameron tends to work with many of the same actors. He’s made multiple movies with Arnold Schwarzenegger, Linda Hamilton, and Kate Winslet. The director originally planned to cast one of his frequent collaborators as the villainous Quaritch in the Avatar saga but ultimately changed his mind. Lang ended up being a great choice for the role of Quaritch. He won the Saturn Award for Best Supporting Actor for his performance in the first Avatar film.

However, he decided against it after casting Sigourney Weaver as Dr. Grace Augustine because he didn’t want to turn Avatar into an Aliens reunion.
Biehn tends to play heroic figures in Cameron’s movies, like Sergeant Kyle Reese, Sarah Connor’s savior who makes the ultimate sacrifice, in The Terminator, and Corporal Dwayne Hicks, one of the only Colonial Marines that Ellen Ripley can trust, in Aliens. He’s great at playing courageous characters that audiences inherently root for, but he’s also capable of doing much more.
