James Cameron blames himself for TermnatorDarkFate not catching on with audiences: 'I think the problem, and I’m going to wear this one, is that I refused to do it without Arnold.'
James Cameron explains what went wrong with the maligned 2019 legacy sequel Terminator: Dark Fate. Cameron kicked off the whole Terminator phenomenon with 1984’s original, a lean and mean action-horror film starring the soon-to-be-iconic Arnold Schwarzenegger. Cameron then took it up several notches for the 1991 sequel Terminator 2: Judgment Day, a certified blockbuster and the movie that guaranteed Terminator would be an ongoing franchise.

Arnold and I have been friends for 40 years, and I could hear it, and it would go like this: ‘Jim, I can’t believe you’re making a Terminator movie without me.
So, it was just our own myopia. We kind of got a little high on our own supply, and I think that’s the lesson there.What Went Wrong With Terminator: Dark Fate Cameron’s point about Dark Fate failing to connect with younger audiences is well-taken. The problem is especially acute given that the film, with its storyline about a young woman being pursued by a new Terminator and protected by a new cyborg hero from the future, was clearly designed to bring in new fans.
