McCaul was one of 175 GOP representatives who voted against forming a bipartisan commission to investigate the events of the Capitol riot.
At that time, McCaul said"We owe it to the victims, their families and the American people to find out the truth. We must have justice, and we must have accountability. It is my hope a Select Committee will produce both."
In response, McCaul said that while January 6 was a"dark day in American history," he believes the attack should be investigated only by the Department of Justice, rather than a politically appointed committee. McCaul added that by focusing on the DOJ probe, the investigation would avoid being"tainted" by politics. The Texas Republican also noted that he was the first lawmaker to call for such an investigation.to a statement from the Texas Republican in which he reiterated that claim.
