After getting totally embarrassed last week by the Detroit Lions, the Jaguars get the ultimate manhood test against the Tennessee Titans, their nemesis.

They can’t wait until Week 18 when Tennessee visits TIAA Bank Field for what could be a no-stakes encounter. If the Jaguars fall a ninth consecutive time Sunday at Nissan Stadium and are eliminated from AFC South contention, the Titans may well sit out all of their starters for a potentially meaningless regular season finale to rest for the playoffs.

“I mean, that’s the game they want to play, so yeah,” said Allen. “I’m excited about this game. I think whoever brings the most energy and most physical mindset is going to win and dominate this game. That’s what we’re prepping to do. Tennessee traded away its most dangerous receiving weapon in A.J. Brown last offseason, and his rookie replacement, Treylon Burks , may not even suit up for a passing game currently ranked 30So if the Jaguars just keep a slumping Henry from going off, coming away with their first win in Nashville since 2013 looks pretty doable.

All of that sounds good in theory, but the Jaguars’ defense seldom demonstrates any sign of rising up in close games, something that has been a Titans’ specialty most of the year. Despite a minus-21 point differential, Tennessee is in position to win a third straight AFC South title because it’s 5-2 in one-score games.

Outside linebackers coach Bill Suhey said after Thursday’s practice that he fully expects Allen and Walker will bring the energy and physicality needed to neutralize the Tennessee offense, but recent history shows just the opposite has transpired.
