Former Texans star Jadeveon Clowney sent home by Browns after comments about team
Cleveland Browns defensive end Jadeveon Clowney warm-ups before the first half of an NFL preseason football game against the Jacksonville Jaguars, Friday, Aug. 12, 2022, in Jacksonville, Fla. Jadeveon Clowney was sent home Friday, Jan. 6, 2023, before practice and will likely not play in Sunday's season finale in Pittsburgh after he made critical comments about the team.
Clowney, who made three Pro Bowls in his five seasons with the Texans after the team picked him No. 1 overall pick in 2014, has played for three teams since the Texans traded him to the Seahawks in 2019. The pass rusher spent one season in Seattle before signing a series of one-year deals, first with the Titans in 2020 and then in consecutive seasons with the Browns, who are 7-9 and out of playoff contention.
Clowney signed to play this season for $10 million after recording nine sacks in 2021, the best season he's had since his final year in Houston. However, the 29-year-old, who has missed four games with an ankle injury and concussion, has just two sacks this season, and that's due to the team favoring fellow No. 1 overall pick Myles Garrett, according to Clowney.
Garrett, who set the franchise sack record with 16 last season, currently has 15, which puts him just shy of Nick Bosa's league-leading 17.5.that although he's friends with Garrett and has no issues with his teammate, coaches ensure Garrett gets the more favorable matchup against weaker offensive linemen.. “Everybody got here for a reason, and we can all make plays. I know I am.”“I just feel like I need to be around somebody that believes in me and my ability,” Clowney said.
