Jada Pinkett Smith takes a deep breath as she tries to put into words how it felt to lay everything bare in her new memoir, Worthy. ‘It was the hardest thing I’ve ever done,’ she says. ‘It wasn’t like I was just writing about my life; it was like, “You’re going to dive into the crevices of when you felt your most unlovable self. You’re going to go in there and explore and explain, and put it on paper. You’re going to see all the events back to back.
’ However, when the couple were firmly separated, Pinkett Smith famously entered into a relationship with August Alsina, a singer 20 years her junior, who was a friend of the family. Four years later, in 2020 , Alsina suddenly outed their ‘affair’ to the press and claimed that Smith had given him ‘permission’ for it, contrary to the reality, which was that the couple were separated and he knew Pinkett Smith was in a new relationship.
