After months of grappling with delays and cost blowouts to the roll-out of new Spirit of Tasmania vessels, the Tasmanian government could have a new political headache that could rattle its minority hold on power.

After months of grappling with delays and cost blowouts to the roll-out of new Spirit of Tasmania vessels, the Tasmanian government could have a new political headache.

The chair of the state-owned company that runs Tasmania's Bass Strait ferries resigns on the day the Tasmanian government intervenes in the ongoing saga of the Spirit of Tasmania ferry port construction. Cost blowouts and delays were not publicly known until Labor started questioning the matter in parliament.Mr Jenner stopped short of saying he would support a no confidence motion in Mr Ferguson, instead wanting to hear evidence from former TT-Line chair, Michael Grainger.

Labor has 10 votes, the Greens have five and have been long-term critics of Mr Ferguson, while the final three votes could come from a combination of Mr Jenner and independents Craig Garland, David O'Byrne or Kristie Johnston, who have also been critical of Mr Ferguson.
