The Librarians: The Next Chapter star Christian Kane has opened up on his character Jacob Stone’s return in the upcoming series. The show is a spinoff to The Librarian TV movies starring Noah Wyle in the titular role, which directly led into a 2014 TV series.
The Librarians cast is headed up by Kane, Rebecca Romijn, Lindy Booth, and John Larroquette. The show ran for four seasons and 42 episodes before concluding in February 2018. The Next Chapter is set to premiere in May 2025. In an interview with ScreenRant’s Grant Hermanns for Leverage: Redemption, Kane discusses his role in the franchise, as well as his upcoming return in The Librarians: The Next Chapter. He details the challenge of not being able to replace Noah Wyle, as well as how much fun the show proved to be. He goes on to reveal his role as someone the show brings in once in a while to steady the ship, and mentions how the magic aspect of the show means there are no rules and things are more flexible creatively. It was so much fun, and Noah Wyle was there, and then Noah Wyle wasn't there, and I'm sort of like,"I would never be able to replace him. I can't put myself in his shoes or anything else." But I'm sort of the guy that, every once in a while, if they get off track, I come in and go,"No, this is how you do it." And then you realize it's magic. There are no rules and stuff like that. So, it's just a fun thing for them to throw me in every once in a while, and for me to get to go,"Look, I know exactly how this is done," and then you realize there are no rules whatsoever. We always live about 16 feet off the ground on that show. It's a fun show to go be a part of. What This Means For The Librarians: The Next Chapter The Spinoff Will Offer Something A Little Different Close The Librarians was a fun and quirky fantasy show that told interesting stories and had a slew of iconic characters, and it feels like development for The Librarians: The Next Chapter will seek to continue this. The show has announced a brand-new cast, but Kane's comments suggest his involvement in the spinoff will be reasonably prominent. It could be a case of Jacob passing the torch to the next iteration of Librarians, or his character could exist to help guide the new characters in their quests, lending a hand where necessary. Like its predecessor, The Librarians: The Next Chapter will air on TNT, after the network acquired the show from The CW. Jacob is one of the most iconic Librarians in the franchise, and his presence will help bridge the gap between the original show and the new one. The Next Chapter will try to thrive as its own entity while also anchoring itself to what has come before with Kane in a recurring role, something which will be familiar to the star after his role as a recurring villain on Angel. The extent of Kane's role in the show is unclear right now, but there's a good bet he will be part of the core supporting cast.
