A recent Forbes article placed Jacksonville as the second best city to live in Florida, beating out Miami and Orlando on the top 10 list.
Jacksonville is Florida’s largest city by population and the largest city by area in the contiguous U.S. While the city's combined metro area population is smaller than Miami and Tampa. For the purposes of this report, Jacksonville's metro area included seven counties: Baker, Clay, Duval, Flagler, Nassau, Putnam and St. Johns.
Forbes noted Jacksonville boasts big city conveniences and beach life while the cost of living remains relatively affordable. Banking, health care and transportation were listed as the biggest employment opportunities. Tampa came out at No. 1. The city topped Jacksonville for having more opportunities and activities, though the cost of living listed was higher with monthly expenses averaging about $6,900 and median income coming in at just about $100 more than Jacksonville.
Directly behind Jacksonville were Gainesville, Cape Coral, Orlando and Miami. Melbourne, Sarasota, Tallahassee and Pensacola rounded out the top 10.
