Patrick McDowell made the decision to read a letter preferring the death sentence on Thursday, despite him saying his attorneys are 'very much against' it.

Frederick Pierallini, 27, committed two federal hate crimes by attacking two Black women at a convenience store and on a sidewalk with a gun in September 2022.

Pierallini left the store, retrieved a shotgun from his car and pointed it at the victim.. Victim 1 ran away in fear. Pierallini continued to use racial slurs throughout the encounter, the DOJ said.
