Jackie Chan is a major influence on the action in Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves. 'Jackie Chan coverage of fighting was really the mandate when we approached all of these combat sequences...'

According to John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein, Jackie Chan is a major influence for Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves’ action. Directed and written by the duo, who previously helmed the hit comedy Game Night, the film stars Chris Pine as a rogue thief, Michelle Rodriguez as a warrior, and Justice Smith as a wizard.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY In conversation with IGN, Goldstein and Daley reveal that Jackie Chan’s fighting influenced the action in Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves. Focusing on a scene from the trailer in which Rodriguez’s Holga uses a brick to fight off offenders while Pine’s Edgin attempts to escape his bonds, Daley and Goldstein dive into how the scene, amongst others, was made possible. Daley shares that they purposely avoided quick cuts and long lenses, so that viewers would be able to see the full shots of the sequences.

It was important to us throughout the whole movie to be portrayed in a way where you can actually see what’s going on so we tried to avoid quick cuts and long lenses. Jackie Chan coverage of fighting was really the mandate when we approached all of these combat sequences and we had this team of these grizzled Bulgarian stuntmen led by Brad Martin who is our second unit director and stunt coordinator who you can see really put their blood sweat and tears on camera here.

The Dungeons & Dragons adaptation is set to release in theaters on August 17. In addition to the film, a spin-off television series is in the works, which will expand on the world and characters introduced in the movie. The series will reportedly be produced by eOne, the company behind the hit series The Walking Dead.
