Harris County Precinct 4 Commissioner Jack Cagle on Tuesday called on County Judge Lina Hidalgo to schedule a special meeting to discuss an alternate tax rate proposal that he said would fund flood control and add “boots on the ground” for law enforcement.
Her two Democratic colleagues on the court, Precinct 1 Commissioner Rodney Ellis and Precinct 2 Commissioner Adrian Garcia issued statements dismissive of Cagle's pitch.
Garcia offered similar skepticism:"Commissioner Cagle’s proposal is not serious and there are many questions about his numbers that need to be answered." "We can’t govern a county this size by negotiating in the press. Instead, we look forward to our colleagues making their case when they show up to court," Garcia said, appearing to oppose Cagle's proposal to call a special meeting.
