In an extended video interview with Apple Music’s Zane Lowe, published Wednesday, Antonoff defended his home state. “Jersey is a very made fun of place for really no reason,” Antonoff said. “It's extremely misunderstood. It's like Europe, man, there's just everything there. Everything. It's the most beautiful place, and beautiful food and culture. And you want good Italian food? Fuck New York City, you go to New Jersey.
“New Jersey is this unwieldy, it’s ‘is this thing going to stay on the track?’, there’s the horns because it’s coastal, but you go a little further up and the horns get sort of rich, you go down and they get a little goofy, it’s like, the horns in Jersey, they’re so lovelorn and sad, but they’re anthemic.' He explained the genre that he feels Bleachers, My Chemical Romance, and more Jersey-grown musicians fall into.
