Indigenous Senator Jacinta Nampijinpa Price has revealed her parents have become the target of abuse following the contentious Voice to Parliament campaign.
Senator Price was one of the most outspoken campaigners for the No campaign, and was elevated to the position of shadow minister for Indigenous Australians following Julian Leeser's resignation from the post.
Senator Price revealed they had become the target of several attacks following their exclusive interview with Sky."It’s disappointing though, that I’ve come to learn during their interview on Sky someone had thrown an egg at my father," she told 2GB's Ben Fordham on Monday morning."They’re a target now, there’s some pretty nasty individuals in Alice Springs who obviously don’t like the outcome.
"My concern now is their safety. They shouldn’t have to put up with that kind of nonsense, nobody should have to put up with that kind of nonsense. Make no mistake this referendum is elite inner city vs the bush! Vulnerable Aboriginal Australia yet again being exploited for an elitist agenda. The No campaign had a resounding win throughout the country, with all states and territories excepting the ACT voting down the proposed Voice to Parliament over the weekend.
Three in four voted yes to the proposal in Yuendemu, while Wadeye and the Tiwi Islands voted yes to the tune of 92.1 per cent and 84 per cent, respectively.
