J.J. Watt posts photo on Twitter, feeding DeMeco Ryans, Texans coaching speculation
If you really want to read into the tweet, you could surmise it means Watt wants to join Ryans' potential coaching staff in Houston. However, earlier this month, Watt didn't sound like he was too crazy about the life of a coach.Watt tweeted on Jan. 21 when someone asked if he had interest in becoming a coach one day
."I love trying to help guys reach their full potential. But it’s the hours and hours of non-coaching that deters me. Those guys put in crazy hours and make lots of family sacrifices, etc." Ryans, the Texans' second-round pick in 2006, played six of his 10 NFL seasons in Houston, including Watt's rookie year. Ryans was the league's defensive rookie of the year and made two Pro Bowls with Houston before finishing his career in Philadelphia.
Ryans has spent the past six seasons on the San Francisco 49ers coaching staff, getting promoted to defensive coordinator in 2021. Under Ryans' tutelage, the 49ers had the top-ranked defense in fewest yards allowed and points allowed per game this season. They also forced the second-most turnovers in the regular season.
