Emmerdale enthusiasts are convinced that the ITV soap has "confirmed" the manner in which Tom King will face his downfall, involving two characters permanently leaving the show.
This suggests an "expiry date" for characters like abusive Tom, who has been manipulating and assaulting his wife Belle Dingle for months. The Sun reports that sources have supported this theory, with one stating: "It's the right time to leave. Previous abusers in Emmerdale haven't managed a redemption arc and for good reason characters like rapist Pierce Harris were killed off in prison. Coronation Street, a rival soap, saw domestic abuser Geoff Metcalfe murdered in a spectacular fashion and it's likely a similar permanent exit will happen for Tom.
On Facebook, one viewer shared their theory: "It was said a while back that Nate was leaving Emmerdale and it was just recently said that Tom is also leaving. Now if the dots were to be joined up I am just wondering is it Nate that kills Tom and that is how Nate leaves the show?"
