Referee explains what really happened in strange March Madness moment with fiery UConn coach Italy’s dramatic World Cup qualifying campaign continued with a 2-0 win over Northern Ireland on Thursday. The Azzurri, as they’ve become accustomed to doing, didn’t make it easy on themselves. Northern Ireland was able to hold Italy scoreless in the first half, and it wasn’t until Moise Kean’s goal in the 80th minute that the Italians could take a deep breath. The Azzurri were the better team and deserved to win, but it was another performance that left something to be desired. That’s been a marker for this team for the last half-decade.Italy was eliminated by Switzerland, 2-0, in the Round of 16 at Euro 2024, and then was pasted by Norway on two separate occasions in World Cup Qualifying, dashing their hopes of topping what was thought to be an easy group. It wasn’t just the losses to Norway that were confounding. The Italians also needed to come from behind twice against Israel in a 5-4 thriller, and they needed two last-gasp goals to defeat Moldova, 2-0. All of that can be forgiven, though. Italy just needs to take care of business against Bosnia and Herzegovina. While the talent edge in this tilt goes to the Azzurri, the Golden Lillies are no pushovers, and they should have a raucous crowd behind them in Zenica. A dogged, physical side, Bosnia and Herzegovina will likely come into this match looking to grind out a victory rather than try to play Italy off the park. It’s unlikely to be the classic park-the-bus approach, but it will not look too dissimilar to what Northern Ireland tried to accomplish. If Bosnia and Herzegovina decides to dig in, Italy will be in a position that has unsettled it plenty of times over the past couple of years. This Italian side just isn’t comfortable trying to dictate the terms of a match, no matter the opponent it is attempting to break down.Sometimes the Azzurri’s talent ends up being enough of an advantage to eke out a result, like when Sandro Tonali proved to be the difference-maker against Northern Ireland, but on other occasions, the pressure builds up, mistakes are made, and the Italians can be caught on the counter. The Play:Michael Leboff is a long-suffering Islanders fan, but a long-profiting sports bettor with 10 years of experience in the gambling industry.
