Some 1,263 people are in hospital, including 229 under intensive care, while 1,000 have mild symptoms or none at all and are expected to shake off the virus under isolation at home.
The outbreak Italy remains concentrated in the country's north, with 1,520 cases in Lombardy, 420 in Emilia-Romagna and 307 in Veneto. With the exception of Valle d'Aosta in the north-west, all Italian regions have reported cases of the coronavirus.
And in other news, a half marathon from Rome to its seaside suburb of Ostia, scheduled for Sunday, will not take place due to novel coronavirus contagion risks, authorities say. Given the advice coming from health authorities, holding the event would be "inappropriate," the municipality of Rome says in a statement.
Thousands of runners were due to take part in the Roma-Ostia run, Italy's most popular half marathon.
