The farmer who runs the popular goat snuggling stall at the Pennyslvania farm show continues to face backlash.

A Berks County farmer who runs the popular goat snuggling stall at the Pennsylvania Farm Show continues to face backlash. He was charged with animal torture after livestreaming an at-home c-section without anesthesia, pain medicine or medical professionals, killing the mother goat but saving the baby.

Dr. Makayla Stone, an associate veterinarian at Black Horse Animal Hospital in Kinzers, said she agrees with the charge, calling the procedure that was done "inhumane." "I mean, let's compare it to humans. If it if a woman was struggling, would you just, you know, you know, cut her open?" she said. "I know it's different, but, you know, animals are just like family to us all to, you know, and they're humans in their own sense." The animal hospital doesn't just care for pets, like dogs; they also care for large animals, like goats. In fact, one of the hospital's owners has six goats of her own. She said many of them were rescued. As experts, Black Horse Animal Hospital vets know treating those animals are no easy task. That's why Dr. Stone said getting in touch with a care team as soon as you get an animal is key. "There definitely is a shortage of large animal veterinarians," she said. "But in this surrounding area, there is a surplus of, you know, veterinarians that would have been able to potentially, you know, go out to help treat that animal." So why wasn't there help from a vet when goat farmer, Justin Steinmetz, performed an at-home c-section while livestreaming? That's the question Stone was asking herself when she first heard what happened. "It was torture to the animal. She didn't have any pain medications on board. You know, kitchen scissors were used, you know, creating greater infection," said Stone. "If she was that much in misery, he should have at least consulted with a vet on the phone and they could have talked to him through doing what's called a terminal c-section, you know, unfortunately, putting her down beforehand and then gotten the babies out that way." Investigators said the farmer did take Brawny the goat to a Quakertown clinic after the procedure, but she died on the table.like many farmers, we are often faced with making immediate decisions to try to save an animal’s life when veterinary care is not immediately available. "All of us veterinarians in the community are all well aware of what happened — on more of high alert to know, you know, things like this may be happening out there," said the associate veterinarian.Of course, it's unclear how things would have played out online if that were also included in the livestream.Crews in Lancaster County were busy Wednesday night with a fire at Tyson Foods, according to dispatch.Telephone pole crash causes issues on York County roadway'God did not make me to hate me': PA House passes marriage equality bill The Pennsylvania House passed house bill 1800 Wednesday, which if signed in to law would repeal a current section of law that defines marriage as only being betColumbia Borough police claim they have identified the driver of a pickup truck that hit a minor on March 20 in Hellam Township.
