Samhita Mukhopadhyay: How would you define white politics?Donald Trump exploited white identity politics to excite a certain section of the American electorate that was feeling white racial resentment and anxiety around the changing demographics in the country and immigration. I think that we've never called out the fact that white identity politics is kind of what we do in America. We've always been doing identity politics, we just called it politics.
The dramatic shift from living a normal life to quarantining in your specific set of circumstances, no matter how privileged, created space for us to actually have these conversations, finally. White people saw uninterrupted what Black Americans have seen for a long time: You are killed, and then no one gets in trouble, and no one is held accountable.
