'Cyberpunk 2077' is clearly stretching the limits of what's possible on Xbox One and PS4.
There comes a time, towards the end of a console cycle, where you wonder if you really need new hardware at all. It's an inevitable part of the way the industry progresses: as developers get better at working a certain piece of hardware they can make games late into a console cycle that look and perform better than older games on an order of magnitude, giving us a sense of just how far you can squeeze a machine even as its about to become obsolete.
What followed was impressive, don't get me wrong, but also more or less what you would expect out an immersive sim. You can sneak around, you can use skills to expose new paths, you can hack a turret to shoot at your enemies. You can rip said turret out of its mount and go to town on the same enemies, you can pick a knife and hurl it at a charging meathead.
