The U.S. is remembering the lives taken and others reshaped by 9/11 on an anniversary laced with presidential campaign politics.
The need for blood in the Wiregrass is especially pertinent at Southeast Health, which serves as a Level 2 trauma center for the area.
“It’s a great way to help out your community,” said Patti Potter, transfusions services supervisor at SE Health. “It’s an easy, selfless act. It’s a continual need that we have.” LifeSouth is the primary blood supplier for the Wiregrass, Potter said. SE keeps about 160 units of blood on their shelf which typically lasts them three days. When donating typically people can donate one unit of blood or additionally blood products meaning plasma and proteins. Depending on hemoglobin numbers you may be able to donate two pints.
“It’s critical hospitals have both type O positive and O negative bloodready to go for patients in the most life-threatening situations,” said Dr. Eric Gehrie, executive physician director for the Red Cross.Ben E Keith/New Brockton from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.Donor Center in Dothan open from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.Mobile Donor Center next to McDonalds in Enterprise from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
