Wayne’s World director Penelope Spheeris reveals why stars Mike Myers and Dana Carvey hated filming the famous “Bohemian Rhapsody” scene. Released in 1992, Wayne’s World proved that some SNL skits actually do make good movies, and proved such movies could be profitable too, grossing $183 million at the box office.

“They hated doing it. They hated banging their head in the car. It hurt. [Metallica’s] James Hetfield, all those headbangers, they’re used to it. These guys weren’t used to doing that. They didn’t have the muscles in their neck and it started hurting real bad. They started asking for Advil on the set. The worst part is Mike said not only does it hurt, it’s not funny.”

Though it certainly sounds as though Spheeris and Myers had a contentious relationship on Wayne’s World, the director insists there was no feuding between them, telling THR “It was not an uncomfortable set.” This echoes previous remarks by Spheeris, who a year ago cleared the air on her relationship with Myers, telling THR:
