Two hundred medical students from the Long School of Medicine at UT Health San Antonio were matched with their residency program Friday.

Elizabeth Abisola Ademuwagun, left, and Ifeadikanwa Ifechi Emejulu embrace as they both celebrate matching in radiology residency programs during a Match Day celebration at Chicken N Pickle Restaurant in San Antonio, Texas, Friday, March 17, 2023.

Nearly 100 percent of seniors from the school matched with their program of choice last years, exceeding the national average, according to UT Health. “Twenty-two percent remained in Bexar County, augmenting this vital patient care workforce in our city,” states a news release. “Importantly for Texas, 57% of the students remained in the state and 43% entered primary care specialties.”

Students applied for virtual interviews with programs nationwide over the fall and winter. Each residency depends on the practice.
