Actor Robert Beltran turned down a Star Trek: Picard season 2 Chakotay cameo that would remind audiences how odd his romance with Seven of Nine was.
Robert Beltran was right to turn down the opportunity to reprise his role as Star Trek: Voyager's Chakotay in Star Trek: Picard season 2, as it was the best decision for the character. Picard continues the story of Voyager's Seven of Nine and had previously brought back the character of her protégé, Icheb , for a brutal death scene in season 1.
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY Robert Beltran revealed via Twitter that he had been offered the chance to reprise the role of Star Trek: Voyager's Chakotay for what eventually amounted to one episode of Star Trek: Picard season 2. Beltran said he "did not like what they had written for Chakotay so I turned them down.
Chakotay and Seven being married in Star Trek: Picard season 2's dark alternate timeline would have been seen as a tongue-in-cheek reference to this notoriously strange bit of character development in Star Trek: Voyager's seventh and final season. A Chakotay cameo would, therefore, have distracted from the overall story of Admiral Jean-Luc Picard confronting the trauma of his past.
Star Trek: Prodigy Tells A Much Better Chakotay Story The Chakotay storyline that's currently playing out in Star Trek: Prodigy is far more respectful of his character. As Captain of the USS Protostar, Chakotay returned to the Delta Quadrant to fix some of the mistakes he and the crew of the Voyager made during their time there.
Now, Vice Admiral Kathryn Janeway is determined to rescue her former second-in-command from this alternate future. Star Trek: Prodigy season 2 will see Janeway and her new crew set off to track down Chakotay, bringing their story full circle. Star Trek: Voyager began with Janeway tracking down wanted fugitive Chakotay and his missing Maquis ship, while Prodigy season 2 will see Janeway set out to rescue her trusted friend.
