AmaZulu FC coach Benni McCarthy has explained the decision behind the Durban club letting go of SA football star Siphiwe Tshabalala.
“If the youngsters are close to the level of the senior players then you have to throw them in. I don’t want to be that guy who says, ‘I have this kid, he’s 18 or 19 years old, but because I was holding on for dear life I only release him when he’s 23’.
“You should be in your prime. Kylian Mbappe [22, of France and PSG] is doing that. He’s young but he’s like a veteran in the game. “You lose an icon of the game but you’re going to gain a superstar and another icon in a few years’ time. While they’re 19 give them the opportunity and that’s what I’m about.
