Lawmakers in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives moved forward two bills that would change the date for the 2024 primary election, after an unconventional
House Bill 1634 would move the primary to Tuesday April 2, 2024. Senate Bill 224 would move the primary to March 19, 2024.
On Tuesday, HB 1634 passed in a committee vote and SB 224 failed in a first vote. However, the committee had to reconvene to pass the Senate version of the bill.Mechanicsburg cancels Halloween parade over safety concerns No Republican voted for either bill, saying they should have been brought up in the committee for a vote sooner.
CBS 21 spoke to the director of the Dauphin County Registration and Elections Department, Jerry Feaser who said he asked lawmakers for an answer months ago. Feaser said an April 2 date would be in conflict with Easter and Good Friday and said there are churches in Dauphin County that may not be able to be used. He said there are more than 40 churches in the county that also serve as polling locations.
