Photo: Sumaya Hisham/ReutersAnglo American CEO Mark Cutifani bid farewell to shareholders on Tuesday, remarking,"it's been quite a ride". He is stepping down from the top job after nine years at the helm of one of the world's largest mining companies.
Cutifani, a mining veteran whose first job was at a coal mine, has been instrumental in reshaping the company's portfolio as he overhauled assets and addressed a concerning debt problem. As he steps down now, the group's flagship project, the Quelleveco copper mine in Peru, is on schedule and on budget for commissioning this year. It will boost Anglo's supply of a key metal in renewable energy projects.
