I’ve been writing about video games, television and movies for Forbes for over 10 years, and you may have seen my reviews on Rotten Tomatoes and Metacritic. I cover all manner of console and PC games, but if it’s about looting or shooting, I’m definitely there. If I’m watching something, it’s usually science fiction, horror or superheroic.
As Deadpool and Wolverine approaches, a central question remains about the concept. If the gap between FOX’s Deadpool and the MCU is using Hugh Jackman ’s Wolverine to bridge it, how exactly is it going to feel when Jackman is replaced by a new, younger actor in the next X-Men-based phase of Marvel in a year or two?
The answer? He’s almost certainly not going to be replaced. And it seems likely that in addition to leading FOX’s X-Men, he’s going to stay around for the MCU’s as well. Why? Well… First, it’s that main question I just said. At baseline, it would feel weird to have a new Wolverine for the first time in 25 years, across multiple X-Men movies and three solo features. No one else in the history of comic book movies has played a superhero role this long or this often. But bringing Jackman in for Deadpool and Wolverine and rumor has it, the Avengers films at the end of the multiverse saga, would make replacing him shortly after even more unlikely and unwelcome.
I don’t see a way Jackman is recast after this. Not after 25 years, not after they throw millions at him to stick around, which he seems open to anyway now. It’s a new era for the X-Men, and I don’t think he wants to miss it.Our community is about connecting people through open and thoughtful conversations.
