Isuzu launches its first all-electric pickup truck, the D-Max EV, promising zero-emission performance without sacrificing the rugged capabilities buyers expect. The truck boasts impressive performance specs and off-road capabilities.

Isuzu is venturing into the realm of electric pickups with the production version of its fully electric D-Max, slated for European roads in 2026. While the external design closely resembles the familiar D-Max, it boasts a zero-emission powertrain without compromising the truck's renowned rugged practicality.

Targetting fleets and private buyers seeking to transition from diesel while retaining payload capacity, the D-Max EV stands as the first production electric pickup in Europe to offer full commercial capabilities. It will compete directly with emerging rivals such as the electric version of the next-generation Toyota Hilux.Visually, the EV shares a striking resemblance to its gasoline counterparts. Unlike the concept revealed last year, the production D-Max EV does not feature a closed-off grille. Exterior modifications are subtle, limited to EV-specific badging and the absence of exhaust pipes. The charging port is cleverly integrated into the location of the traditional fuel cap, maintaining a familiar arrangement for users. The inaugural model, adorned in a unique Norwegian Blue paint job, accented by black elements and matching 18-inch alloy wheels. The D-Max EV operates on dual electric motors, generating a combined output of 188 hp (140 kW / 190 PS) and 325 Nm (240 lb-ft) of torque, exceeding the diesel version's power by 27 hp (20 kW) but slightly trailing in torque by 35 Nm (26 lb-ft). Power is distributed to all four wheels via a permanent four-wheel-drive system, retaining the Rough Terrain Mode feature from the diesel model. Performance specifications include a 0 to 62 mph (0 to 100 km/h) acceleration in 10.1 seconds and a top speed that peaks just above 80 mph (129 km/h).Emphasizing its robust work capabilities, the electric D-Max maintains a payload capacity exceeding 1,000 kg (2,205 lbs) and a towing capacity of 3.5 tonnes (7,716 lbs), aligning with comparable diesel midsize pickups. Off-road prowess is equally impressive, boasting a wading depth of 600 mm (23.6 inches) and 210 mm (8.3 inches) of ground clearance.A 66.9 kWh lithium-ion battery powers the D-Max EV, delivering a WLTP-estimated range of 263 km (163 miles). While this figure may appear modest compared to smaller electric vehicles, it aligns with expectations for a midsize pickup carrying additional weight and dimensions. Fast charging at up to 50 kW DC allows the battery to recharge from 20% to 80% in approximately one hour. Isuzu provides an 8-year or 100,000-mile (160,900 km) warranty for the battery. The fully electric truck is based on a modified version of the ladder frame chassis found in the regular Isuzu D-Max. Notably, the rear suspension employs a De-Dion setup instead of leaf springs, contributing to a smoother ride. The Isuzu D-Max EV made its global debut at the 2025 Commercial Vehicle Show in Birmingham, UK. Pre-sales for the UK market are anticipated to commence in the second half of 2025, with the first customer deliveries scheduled for March 2026. Isuzu has also confirmed that the electric truck will be available in select mainland European markets, including Norway
