Austin Independent School District is still having trouble with Waymo's self-driving vehicles passing buses, even after the company implemented software updates
Waymo vehicles have committed 24 school bus stop arm violations in Austin ISD this school year, with the most recent incident occurring Jan. 12. Additional violations were recorded Dec. 11, 12 and 19, the last day of school before winter break, according to Austin ISD.
"Austin ISD again asks that Waymo cease operations in the mornings and afternoons during school days when our students are using our school buses," the district said. "Austin ISD continues to explore any and all legal recourse available." Waymo spokesman said the company's vehicles have "12x fewer crashes involving injuries to pedestrians compared to human benchmarks" and that the company has "seen material improvement in our performance since our software update." The company said it met with Austin ISD on Dec. 10 to collaborate on data collection for different light patterns and conditions related to school buses and is reviewing those findings. "We're invested in demonstrating exceptional driving performance around school bus interactions that exceeds human-driven vehicles," the Waymo spokesman said. "We are committed to an ongoing dialogue and collaboration on this matter."with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration in December to address how its vehicles respond to stopped school buses. The recall came after the district documented 20 violations through early December.Austin ISD Police Chief Wayne Sneed said the district requested Waymo cease operations during student pickup and dropoff times, but the company declined. "They did not agree with our risk assessment and respectfully declined to stop operating," Sneed said in December. District 9 Council Member Zohaib "Zo" Qadri said any failure to stop for a school bus is "deeply concerning.""The safety of our kids has to come first, no matter who or what is behind the wheel," Qadri said. "I expect Waymo and all AV operators to take these incidents seriously, work closely with the City, and make immediate improvements to ensure this does not happen again."SAN ANTONIO - New video captured by the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement shows the moments someone rammed ICE agents with a car here in San Antonio.TheThe arrest affidavit says two employees agreed to fight during a scheduled work break.SAN ANTONIO — Two San Antonio police officers were suspended after records show they released a driver who showed signs of intoxication. On June 28, 2025, OfficeAfter a video surfaced showing an alleged migrant ramming his car into ICE agent vehicles in a Walmart parking lot near Blanco and Wurzbach, civil rights advocaSAN ANTONIO — One man was rushed to the hospital after a shooting on the city’s West Side.First responders were called at 9 p.m. Wednesday to the 2000 block of
