Israeli airstrikes in Gaza killed nine Palestinians, including women and children, even as the world focused on other matters. The attack on residential buildings drew outrage, with relatives condemning the ongoing violence. Separately, over a dozen international activists remain detained in Libya while attempting to reach Gaza by land to protest the blockade.

Omar Klaub, injured in an Israel i strike, mourns beside the body of his mother, Rana, who was killed in the same attack, during her funeral at Shifa Hospital in Gaza City, Thursday, June 4, 2026.

The Gaza Health Ministry reported that Israeli strikes killed at least nine Palestinians overnight, including two women and two children. The attacks occurred in at least four separate locations across Gaza City. Footage from one strike showed a massive hole in an upper floor of a residential apartment building, with interior walls blown out and blood-stained belongings scattered throughout the room and into the street.

"They say the war has stopped, but the war has not stopped," said Walid Shbeir, uncle of one victim, as family members sobbed over the bodies at Shifa Hospital. "Every night there is killing, and we have martyrs. Every night, in the morning, in the evening, and at night, this killing is continuous for us.

" Since a ceasefire took effect, Israeli forces have conducted repeated airstrikes and frequently opened fire on Palestinians near military-held zones. Gaza's Health Ministry, which is part of the Hamas-led government but considered reliable by UN agencies and independent experts, stated that more than 936 Palestinians have been killed since the ceasefire began. The ministry does not differentiate between civilian and combatant deaths. Israel maintains that its strikes target violations of the truce or threats to its troops.

Four Israeli soldiers have been killed in Gaza since the ceasefire. Israel's broader military campaign in Gaza began in response to Hamas' October 2023 attack, which resulted in approximately 1,200 Israeli deaths and the taking of 251 hostages. In a separate incident, at least 11 international activists attempting to draw attention to Israel's blockade of Gaza have been detained in Libya for over a week while trying to reach the territory by land, according to the Global Sumud Flotilla.

Libyan media reported the detentions relate to illegal entry and lack of permits, although the Global Sumud organizers stated the participants all held valid visas. More than 200 health workers and activists have been attempting a separate overland route from Mauritania, started on May 15, aiming to enter Gaza via Egypt's Rafah crossing. The organization reported that a Tunisian national was arrested on May 19 near the Libya-Tunisia border while returning home.

Another 10 people were detained on May 24 while negotiating safe passage for their convoy at a checkpoint near Sitre, Libya, along the Mediterranean coast. The detainees come from Tunisia, Argentina, Portugal, Italy, the US, Uruguay, Poland, and Spain. Libyan authorities announced the detentions on May 25, and the detention was extended by another 10 days on the Tuesday prior to this report. The Global Sumud Flotilla has condemned the detentions as "unlawful" and "arbitrary.
