The Israeli military released grainy images Saturday of tank columns moving slowly in open areas of Gaza and said warplanes bombed dozens of Hamas tunnels and underground bunkers
On Saturday morning, Israel’s military claimed it killed the head of Hamas’s paraglider operations who allegedly played a key role in the 7 October attack on Israel., signalling a further escalation in its campaign to crush the territory’s ruling militant group after its bloody incursion in southern Israel three weeks ago.
The BBC’s Rushdi Abualouf, reporting from Gaza, said there was a “huge bombardment” overnight that was “on a scale we’ve never seen before”. He wrote: “Huge flames could be seen rising into the sky – it seemed they were using different types of bombs. “There’s been panic everywhere, even here in Khan Younis, where the bombing was less, as people try to reach family members in other areas to check they are safe, but the phones have been cut off.Israel has been pummeling the Gaza Strip since 7 October, when Hamas militants killed 1,400 and took 229 others hostage.
