Israel's military massed troops on the border with Gaza as airstrikes pummeled the Palestinian enclave in the wake of Saturday's attack by Hamas.
Israeli citizens with cybersecurity and technology skills are banding together to protect websites, and develop applications to help with relief efforts and databases identifying hostages taken by militants since Saturday’s attacks, tech industry leaders in the country said. Members of the country’s technology community formed the all-volunteer Israel Tech Guard to search for hostages and missing people using clues from online posts.
Members of Israel’s cybersecurity community, many of whom are veterans of the country’s Unit 8200 military intelligence unit, have also pitched in to help with securing widely used applications, such as those warning of impending missile strikes. Other efforts include databases and websites for aid coordination, applications for first responders and location services for displaced civilians, said Sharon Seemann, a Tel Aviv-based partner at venture-capital firm YL Ventures.
