Israel's military massed troops on the border with Gaza as airstrikes pummeled the Palestinian enclave in the wake of Saturday's attack by Hamas.
The Justice Department is focused on working with families of missing U.S. citizens, Attorney General Merrick Garland said Thursday after briefing President Biden about the crisis. “We continue to work on the return of all missing Americans, including those believed to be taken hostage,” Garland said. Garland’s own Jewish forebears came to the U.S.
in the early 1900s, fleeing antisemitism in Eastern Europe. The White House said Thursday that at least 27 American citizens were killed during Hamas’s attacks, and 14 remain unaccounted for. U.S. officials haven’t said how many Americans they believe are being held hostage. For assistance or to report information about missing Americans, call the FBI at 1-800-CALL-FBI.
