A convoy of 14 aid trucks from Egypt entered Gaza Sunday night.
As part of its campaign to eradicate Hamas from Gaza, Israel said Monday it had hit some of the tunnels underneath the enclave that are used by the militant group to transport weapons and people without detection by Israeli air surveillance. The map above shows tunnels as they have been identified by the Israel Defense Forces running underneath Gaza City and other locations in the Palestinian enclave.
Hamas also has cross-border tunnels that it used in the 2006 abduction of the Israeli soldier Gilad Shalit, who was released five years later in exchange for the release of more than 1,000 Palestinian and Arab prisoners. A network of tunnels under the Egypt-Gaza border was used for years to smuggle in everything from guns to livestock and electronic equipment. Thousands of rockets have been built in Gaza using supplies brought in through the tunnels.
